The Jericho Folk Music Club has been running for seventeen years in Vancouver at the Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery St.
 Each year we are open from the first Tuesday in May to the last Tuesday in September
with a wide range of musics from Celtic, Blue Grass, Old Timey and Singer Songwriters

September 6th
Erratica

Erratica a great group with fiddle, flute, mandolin, banjo and guitar, playing Celtic and Old Timey tunes with a wonderful selection of traditional, contemporary and self penned songs mixed with some rye humour.

September 13th
Thereafter

Thereafter features Neil and Keona Hammond on guitar and flute, with Annie Brown on fiddle. These locally celebrated musicians present vocal harmonies, soulful original songs and fingerstyle guitar to set your imagination a-travelin’. Rounding out the set are their own playful re-interpretations of contemporary Irish melodies.

September 20th
Graham Tait

Graham’s interests in traditional song and music pull from areas such as Scotland, Ireland, the Basque Country and Quebec. His discovery of traditional Quebecois music shortly after moving to Canada has resulted in a few trips to the wonderful accordion festival in Montmagny and for the last 10 years since leaving Vancouver he has been one of the main musians in the house band at the Calgary Folk Club.

Fraser Union

Fraser Union can surprise you with their range of music from blues to songs of West Coast life.  Whether accompanied or a cappella (great harmonies, either way), from traditional folk to standards by Mose Allison or Bob Dylan, Fraser Union's repertoire is delivered through a lively performance that makes a great evening.

Hugh Ellenwood

Passionate, poetic and moving are words to describe the song writing of Brett Peterson.  A former A&M and Moxa recording artist, Accompanying him will be talented local fiddler, Hugh Ellenwood, a member of Five on a String

August 9th
Dark Willow

David Donaldson and Ellen Vanderhoeven pair the sound of the Irish whistle, alternately lively and cheerful or sweet and haunting, with the strong voice of traditional and contemporary songs. The result of this combination is a quietly powerful exploration of the beauty of each song.

August 16th
Frankie Armstrong

Whether singing a cappella or with minimal accompaniment, Frankie Armstrong uses her powerful vocals to breathe new life into her songs. A long time member of the late Ewan MacColl's Critic's Group, Armstrong has been a frequent performer at folk festivals throughout Great Britain and the United States.

Just Duets

Just Duets perform a wonderful selection of contemporary folk and classic country music. Andrea Smith and Dave Lidstone present their music with sibling-like harmonies supported by beautiful guitar work. Their repertoire consists of songs of social commentary, life and love.

Brighter Lights Thicker Glasses

BLTG are a recently formed group dedicated to the principle that no tune you have just heard is any indication of the next one coming. Consisting of Brian Samuels on cello, John Palmer on guitar and vocals and, Michael Dunn on a variety of instruments.

   The Rakish Angles

            The Rakish Angles are a boundary crossing, genre-blending Canadian New Acoustic stringband. They compose, arrange and perform exciting works of instrumental and vocal Newgrass, Gypsy-Jazz and Oldtime music. The quartet's first release, the self titled the Rakish Angles (2009), was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award (2009), and a Western Canadian Music Award (2010)

July 12th
Silk Road

 

 

          This a new music performance that introduces audiences to different cultures through the experience, discoveries, and travels of Qiu Xia He with her Pipa, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Andre Thibault. The pipa, a Chinese lute with a wide range of expression, will be the focal point. An exciting and innovative musical force, skillfully weaving musical styles from around the world into the exciting new music of world fusion.


 

July 19th
Raghu

                    Raghu Lokanathan is a wonderful songwriter who was born in India and grew up in Montreal, where he learned to play guitar and accordion. He began writing songs influenced by artists such as Woody Guthrie. Penguin Eggs Magazine described his 2004 release Caledonia as “… a charming, beguiling album of songs that don’t follow the usual patterns.”

Jim Houston

             Jim combines the depths of jazz, the drive of Delta blues and the deep roots of acoustic music, meshing traditions into finely written song material. Backed by finger-picked guitar on vintage and resophonic instruments, bottleneck slide, tenor banjo, harmonica and vocals that range from a deep growl to tenor.

Willy Blizzard

Vancouver-based indie alt/folk trio Willy Blizzard are fresh home from touring Alberta, and are delighted to bring their indie-roots sound to Jericho Folk.  The acoustic trio performs alt / folk / county originals featuring superb vocal harmonies against guitar, banjo and stand-up bass.  Their song writing has been called “truly gorgeous Canadiana” by Penguin Eggs magazine.  Vocals fronted by John Hough “the smoothest baritone west of the Rockies” (Canadian Folk Bulletin).

 June 14th
The Irish Wakers

The Irish Wakers play traditional Irish music with passion and heartfelt wonder.  Their performance of  lively jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, & waltzes combined with songs and shanties is guaranteed to get your toes tapping! Instruments include fiddle, bodhran, guitar, Irish flutes and whistles. The ‘Wakers’ play  at festivals and pubs in the Lower Mainland and were a featured band at Irish House 2010 during the Olympics.

Highrise Lonesome

 Highrise Lonesome takes the traditional sound of mountain music uptown! With a passion for bluegrass, soaring vocal harmonies and some of the hottest pickin' in these parts, this group of seasoned musicians has developed an unmistakable sound that audiences love.

 June 28th Westwynds

Vancouver folk group WestWynds bring us their unique selection of Canadian, World, Celtic and original
tunes. Their rich vocal harmony will inspire and delight.

Jocelyn is a fiddle player with outstanding talent! Blazing new-trad Celtic fiddle with original, contemporary, and traditional music, mixed with funky rhythms and lots of groove!  Music to move to, dance to, and celebrate!

Little Mountain Band

Kitty King, Dave Lidstone and Rob McGregor have played music together for about 30 years. These days they are pursuing their eclectic musical tastes with blues, Jazz and originals on acoustic bass and guitar and mandolin.

Joe  Charron

From the factories to the farm, from the back alleys of the city to somewhere down a dirt road, Joe Charron writes songs about everday people…songs for the heart, songs from the heart. Country, folk, roots… whatever you want to call it these are the songs of joy and sorrow, of hard work and hard play. These are the stories of real people. These are songs that last.
